Why travel to Wieliczka?

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of Europe’s most unique attractions. Descend over 800 steps into a world of glittering salt chambers, intricate carvings and even a breathtaking underground cathedral. Guided tours bring the mine’s rich history and quirky legends to life and you’ll see everything from saline lakes to salt chandeliers. The mine is a true feat of engineering and imagination and the cool, steady underground temperature is a bonus in summer. But be aware: the mine tour involves a lot of walking (about 3.5 km) and stairs, so it’s not ideal for those with mobility issues. The initial descent is long, though you’ll return to the surface by lift. Wieliczka’s climate above ground is continental, with cold winters and warm, sometimes stormy summers – so pack accordingly. The town itself is compact and easy to explore, but can get crowded at peak times, especially in July and August.
