Why travel to Playa del Carmen?

Playa del Carmen is perfect if you want a lively beach town that’s less hectic than Cancún but still packed with things to do. Stroll along Quinta Avenida, the vibrant pedestrian strip lined with shops, bars and street performers. Spend your days swimming in cenotes, exploring Mayan ruins or relaxing at a beach club. The town is also a gateway to adventure parks like Xcaret and Xplor and it’s easy to take day trips to Cozumel, Tulum or Chichen Itza. Just be ready for crowds in peak season, high prices at some resorts and strong sun year-round. Ocean currents can be tricky, so always heed safety flags and sargassum (seaweed) can be an issue at times. Still, the energy and beauty of Playa make it hard to resist.
