Frescoes, faith and lively piazzas

Padua stands out in Italy’s Veneto region as a place where history and daily life mix naturally. The city is home to one of Europe’s oldest universities, whose courtyards and libraries draw students from many countries. Its streets hold medieval churches, Renaissance art and markets that sell fresh produce alongside handmade goods. Public squares invite people to sit and talk, while nearby hills offer countryside walks with views of the Po River valley. Padua balances tradition with modern life without losing its cultural roots.

Why travel to Padua?

Padua is a dream for art lovers, history buffs and anyone who enjoys authentic Italian city life without the crowds of Venice. See Giotto’s world-famous frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel, marvel at the grandeur of the Basilica of Saint Anthony and stroll Prato della Valle, one of Europe’s largest and most atmospheric squares. The city’s university heritage brings a youthful vibe, while its markets and cafés invite you to linger. Downsides? Summers are hot and humid and the city can be busy with students and pilgrims.
