Why travel to Redwood National Park?
If you love wild nature, jaw-dropping trees and the idea of exploring a landscape that hasn’t changed much in millennia, Redwood National Park is a must. The park protects nearly half of the world’s old-growth redwoods, along with wild rivers, open prairies and 37 miles of pristine northern California coastline. Hike among giants, spot Roosevelt elk in meadows or watch for whales and seals along the coast. The park is also a living laboratory for naturalists, with unique ecosystems thriving in the redwood canopies themselves. But be prepared: the weather is unpredictable, with fog and drizzle common even in summer. Trails can be muddy and cell service is spotty. The park is remote, so bring what you need and plan ahead – especially for food and fuel. Earthquakes and tsunamis are rare but possible and the area is seismically active. Still, the magic of these forests is absolutely worth the adventure.
