Why travel to Trakai?

Trakai is one of Lithuania’s most enchanting destinations. The iconic Trakai Island Castle, perched on Lake Galvė, is a must-see-its red-brick towers reflected in blue water are unforgettable. Beyond the castle, you’ll find colorful wooden houses, gentle lakeside trails and the rich traditions of the Karaim minority, including their delicious kybynai pastries. Whether you’re into history, nature or food, Trakai offers a perfect mix of all three. It’s easy to explore in a day, but summer weekends can get crowded, especially around the castle and lakes. English is spoken at tourist spots, but less so elsewhere and some facilities may close early outside peak season. Bring cash for small purchases and be ready for changeable weather – rain can roll in quickly.
