Why travel to Vesuvius National Park?
If you love dramatic landscapes, history and a bit of adventure, Vesuvius is a must. The hike to the Gran Cono crater is exhilarating, offering views into the volcano’s depths and across the entire region. The park’s 11 trails wind through wildflowers, pine forests and ancient lava flows, while nearby archaeological sites like Pompeii and Herculaneum bring the volcano’s story to life. Just know that summer can be scorching and crowded and the trails are steep and exposed – so come prepared for sun, wind and sometimes unpredictable weather. Some summit areas are off-limits for safety and volcanic activity is always monitored, so check for trail closures before you go.
