Why travel to Opatija?

Opatija is perfect if you love a blend of history, architecture and relaxing by the sea. The famous Lungomare promenade stretches for 12 kilometers along the coast, passing ornate villas, beach clubs and quiet coves. The town’s heart is a showcase of Austro-Hungarian grandeur, with pastel facades, grand hotels and the iconic statue of the Girl with the Seagull. Botanical gardens and the historic Villa Angiolina add a green, peaceful touch, while the lively café scene and fine dining restaurants offer plenty of reasons to linger. On the practical side, Opatija’s beaches are mostly concrete or pebbly, not sandy and can get crowded in summer. The town is hilly in places, so pack good shoes. Prices are higher than in many other Croatian towns, especially for seafront hotels and restaurants. Parking can be a challenge in peak season and the weather is wetter than on some Dalmatian islands, especially in winter.
