Why travel to Riomaggiore?

Riomaggiore captures the essence of what makes Cinque Terre special-it's a place where time seems to slow down as you wander through labyrinthine streets that lead to breathtaking sea views. The harbor is widely considered the most beautiful in all of Cinque Terre, especially at sunset when the pastel buildings glow in the golden light. History buffs will appreciate the 13th-century castle perched at the town's highest point, while food lovers can sample local wines produced from grapes grown on centuries-old terraced vineyards that earned the region its UNESCO status. Just be prepared for crowds, especially during summer months when day-trippers flood the narrow streets between mid-morning and evening. The village is built on steep terrain with lots of stairs, making it challenging for those with mobility issues. And while the small pebble beach offers a place to swim, don't expect expansive sandy shores. Still, if you can wake up early to experience the village before the crowds arrive or stay until after they leave, you'll discover why many consider Riomaggiore the most captivating of the Cinque Terre villages.
