City of a Thousand Windows

Berat stands in central Albania along the Osum River with stone houses stacked on hillsides like old bricks. The town carries centuries of history shaped by many cultures, seen in its Ottoman mosques and historic churches side by side. Local markets sell fresh fruit, cheese and bread made nearby. Walking through streets feels quiet but alive with small shops and cafes. Berat’s skyline shows a mix of old stone towers and modern homes. The city’s heritage is clear in UNESCO sites that protect its past while life continues today.

Why travel to Berat?

Berat’s unique charm lies in its ancient architecture and rich cultural heritage. The town's well-preserved Ottoman-era buildings and narrow, winding streets invite exploration and the view from the castle is a photographer’s dream. Don’t forget to explore the local wineries as well, which have been producing wine for centuries. Although beautiful, Berat can be a bit tricky to navigate, especially on foot due to its steep streets, so be prepared for a bit of a workout. The lack of mass tourism means you’ll get a more authentic and tranquil experience compared to other European destinations.
