Why travel to Saas-Fee?
Saas-Fee is a dream for mountain lovers and outdoor adventurers. The glacier-fed ski area is famously snow-sure, offering skiing and snowboarding even in summer, while the 350 km of hiking trails wind through wildflower meadows and past jaw-dropping viewpoints. The village itself is charming and relaxed, with wooden chalets, great fondue and a slower pace than busier resorts like Zermatt. You can try everything from sledging and ice climbing to glacier cave tours and monster scooter rides. The scenery is simply spectacular and the sunny days (over 300 a year!) make it a year-round destination. However, Saas-Fee can be expensive, especially for accommodation and dining and the altitude means chilly nights even in summer. The village is car-free, so you’ll need to park outside and walk or use electric taxis and shuttles. Climate change is impacting the glaciers and some high-altitude trails or ski runs may be closed in late summer. Still, if you want an authentic alpine escape with epic views and plenty to do, Saas-Fee is hard to beat.
