Arctic skiing under midnight sun

Riksgransen is a small Swedish village along the northern coast where the sea meets the land. The area has quiet streets lined with simple wooden houses and views of open water. Local fishermen still use traditional boats and summer brings light that lasts late into the evening. In winter, snow covers the ground and makes travel slower, but the cold air feels fresh and clear. Visitors can walk along the shore or explore nearby nature trails without crowds. The pace here is steady and calm, making it easy to notice small details like bird calls or distant ship horns.

Safety information overview

General safety
9
Riksgränsen is extremely safe regarding crime, with virtually no security concerns. The real dangers come from nature - avalanches, sudden weather changes and getting lost in the wilderness. Never venture into backcountry areas without proper equipment and preferably a guide. Always check weather forecasts before outdoor activities.
Health & Medical
6
Basic medical facilities are available at the resort, but the nearest hospital is in Kiruna, 90 minutes away. Comprehensive travel insurance including helicopter evacuation is strongly recommended. The extreme cold presents risks of frostbite and hypothermia, so proper clothing and precautions are essential.
Accessibility
7
Riksgränsen has limited accessibility features for those with mobility challenges. While main hotel areas are accessible, the ski resort and wilderness activities are challenging for those with physical limitations. Some accommodations offer accessible rooms, but the snowy environment creates natural barriers year-round.
Tap water
10
Tap water in Riksgränsen is excellent quality, sourced from pristine Arctic groundwater. It's perfectly safe to drink and actually preferable to bottled water. Public water sources are limited, so carrying a reusable water bottle is recommended, especially during outdoor activities.
