Why travel to Durmitor National Park?

Durmitor is a dream for anyone who loves the outdoors. The park boasts more than fifty peaks over 2,000 meters, including Bobotov Kuk and is dotted with 18 glacial lakes known as ‘mountain eyes.’ The Tara River Canyon is a must-see: at 1,300 meters deep, it’s Europe’s deepest and perfect for rafting or ziplining. Hiking, climbing, canyoning, cycling and even skiing in winter make this a true year-round adventure spot. The UNESCO-listed landscape is also home to rare wildlife, wildflower meadows and ancient pine forests. But be ready for mountain weather-conditions can change quickly and even summer can bring a chill, especially at higher elevations. Some trails are rugged and require good fitness and the roads into the park are winding (motion sickness is common). Public transport is limited, so a car or organized tour is best for exploring the park’s remote corners. Still, the rewards are immense: Durmitor feels untouched, uncrowded and endlessly inspiring.
