Why travel to Budva?

Budva is a place where you can start your day with a stroll through a walled old town that feels straight out of a Mediterranean fairy tale, then spend the afternoon lounging on Blue Flag beaches or walking the scenic Seven Beaches Trail. When the sun sets, the city transforms: bars, clubs and open-air parties spill onto the promenade, making Budva the nightlife capital of Montenegro. Beyond the party scene, you’ll find cultural festivals, ancient churches and easy boat trips to islands like Sveti Nikola or the ultra-picturesque Sveti Stefan. But Budva is no secret: in summer, it gets crowded and lively, with music and nightlife that can go late into the night. Some beaches are pebbly rather than sandy and the main promenade can feel a bit chaotic or overwhelming, especially for families. Parking is tricky in high season and prices rise in July and August. Still, if you’re after a mix of history, beach fun and a party vibe, Budva is hard to beat.

  • Walk to Mogren Beach via the cliff path; it’s scenic but can be slippery.
  • For best views, time the Citadel and city walls near sunset, then dine outside the walls.

How to travel to Budva

Budva is about 19 km from Tivat Airport (the nearest, with many seasonal flights), 64 km from Podgorica Airport and 96 km from Dubrovnik (Croatia). Buses run from all major airports and cities. Taxis and private shuttles are available, but book in advance in high season. The town is also accessible by car, but parking can be a challenge in July and August.

Access summary

  • From Tivat Airport: Taxi or transfer along coast, about 30–40 min.

  • From Dubrovnik: Cross-border coastal buses or transfers, typically around 2–3 h.

Where to stay in Budva

Budva has everything from boutique hotels in the old town to modern resorts, apartments and budget hostels. For a quieter stay, look at nearby Becici or Przno. Book well ahead for summer, as the best options fill fast. Some beachfront hotels and clubs can be noisy-check reviews if you want peace and quiet.

How to get around Budva

Budva’s old town and beaches are walkable, but the Riviera stretches for miles – local buses, taxis and water taxis connect main spots. Parking is limited in summer, so consider public transport or walking. For exploring nearby beaches and Sveti Stefan, the Seven Beaches Trail is a scenic option. Renting a bike or scooter is popular but be cautious in busy traffic.
