Why travel to Amboseli National Park?

Amboseli is a dream for wildlife enthusiasts, particularly elephant lovers. The park is home to over 900 African elephants that have been studied for decades by the Amboseli Elephant Research Project, giving you a chance to observe these magnificent creatures up close. Beyond elephants, you'll find lions, cheetahs, wildebeest, zebras and over 600 bird species across five distinct habitats. The park's relatively small size means wildlife is concentrated and easier to spot than in some larger reserves. What makes Amboseli truly special is the backdrop of Africa's highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, creating postcard-perfect photo opportunities when the weather is clear. However, be prepared for dramatic temperature changes (from 5°C at night to 40°C during the day) and dusty conditions during the dry season. The park can also get crowded during peak seasons and some areas become inaccessible during heavy rains. Still, for unforgettable wildlife encounters in a compact, accessible setting, Amboseli is hard to beat.

The park is primarily accessible by 4x4 vehicles. Most lodges can accommodate visitors with mobility issues, but the terrain is rough and uneven. Game drives are the main activity, with limited options for those unable to ride in vehicles.
