Silk Road crossroads with modern flair

Tashkent serves as Uzbekistan’s capital and largest city, located in a wide valley surrounded by mountains. The area has been important since ancient times because of its position along the Silk Road, connecting trade between East and West. Today, visitors see both historic mosques with blue-tiled domes and modern buildings that reflect recent development. Markets sell local fruits, spices and textiles while cafés serve tea alongside conversations about daily life. The city’s transport network makes it easy to explore museums, parks and neighborhoods where old traditions meet new ideas.

Why travel to Tashkent?

Tashkent is a city of contrasts. You’ll wander from centuries-old mosques and madrasahs in the Old City to lively markets like Chorsu Bazaar, then hop on a metro that’s as much an art gallery as public transport. The city’s parks are perfect for strolls and you’ll find everything from traditional teahouses to sleek shopping malls. Tashkent is less touristy than other Silk Road cities, so you get a genuine feel for Uzbek life. Just know that attractions can be spread out, so be ready to use the metro or taxis. Summers are hot and English isn’t widely spoken, but locals are friendly and eager to help.
