Why travel to Pai?
Pai is the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and just soak in the scenery. The surrounding countryside is dotted with waterfalls like Mo Paeng and Pam Bok, steamy hot springs and quirky sights like the Bamboo Bridge and Pai Canyon. The town itself is full of cozy cafés, lively night markets and a creative, international crowd. Whether you’re after yoga, hiking, Muay Thai classes or just a hammock and a good book, Pai delivers. But Pai isn’t for everyone. The road from Chiang Mai is famously winding (762 curves!), so pack motion sickness meds if you need them. The town has a reputation for backpacker parties and in high season (Nov–March) it gets busy – book ahead for buses and accommodation. Nights can be surprisingly chilly in winter and prices aren’t as dirt-cheap as they once were. Still, Pai’s mix of natural beauty, adventure and mellow energy makes it one of Thailand’s most beloved escapes.
