Why travel to Machupicchu Pueblo?

You come to Machupicchu Pueblo for one main reason: to visit Machu Picchu, one of the world’s greatest archaeological sites. But the town itself is worth a wander – relax in the thermal hot springs, browse handicraft markets and enjoy Peruvian cuisine after a day of hiking or train travel. The jungle setting is stunning and there’s an infectious energy as everyone here is either about to visit or has just returned from, the ancient wonder. On the downside, the town can feel crowded and touristy, especially in high season and prices are higher than elsewhere in Peru. The humid, rainy climate means bugs and occasional mold in accommodations and there are lots of steps and uneven paths – challenging for those with mobility issues.
