Why travel to Jajce?
Jajce is a dream for anyone who loves nature, history and a bit of adventure. The town’s showstopper is the Pliva Waterfall, a stunning cascade that plunges into the Vrbas River right at the edge of the old town. Wander cobbled streets, explore the medieval fortress for panoramic views and seek out quirky sights like the catacombs, watermills on Pliva Lake and ancient temples. The friendly locals, rich mix of Bosnian, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian heritage and hearty cuisine (don’t miss the ćevapi and baklava!) make it a truly memorable stop. It’s not all perfect: Jajce can feel sleepy outside summer and some sights (like museums or the fortress) may have limited information or only be open when keyholders are around. The walk up to the fortress is steep and some paths are uneven or poorly lit – bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight if you plan to explore in the evening. Still, Jajce’s charm, scenery and authenticity make it one of Bosnia’s most rewarding small towns.
