Wildlife, Wonders and Rugged Coast

Oceania’s Kangaroo Island sits off South Australia’s coast. It covers over 100,000 acres of land and water. The island has long stretches of white sand beaches and clear blue seas. Visitors can see kangaroos roaming free across hills and forests. Koalas live in eucalyptus groves while seals rest on rocky shores. Local farms grow seafood such as lobster and oysters, plus honey from thriving hives. The climate stays mild most of the year, making it easy to explore by car or bike.

Why travel to Kangaroo Island?

If you crave the wild side of Australia, Kangaroo Island is a must. The island is teeming with native wildlife-kangaroos, koalas, echidnas, sea lions and even penguins – all roaming free in their natural habitats. Flinders Chase National Park is a highlight, with the surreal Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch, where you can watch fur seals basking on the rocks. The coastline is a patchwork of rugged cliffs, secluded coves and beaches perfect for surfing, swimming or just soaking up the sun. Inland, you’ll find lavender farms, honey producers and wineries offering a taste of the island’s bounty. But it’s not all picture-perfect-Kangaroo Island is vast and getting around takes time. Public transport is almost non-existent, so you’ll need your own wheels or a tour. Some roads are unsealed and can get rough, especially after rain. The island is still recovering from bushfires in some areas, so check for any closures or restrictions before you go. Wildlife is everywhere, including on the roads, so drive carefully, especially at dawn and dusk.
