Why travel to Roatán?
Roatán is a dream for anyone who loves the sea. It’s ringed by the world’s second-largest barrier reef, making it a haven for divers and snorkelers – expect sea turtles, rays and technicolor coral gardens. But there’s more: zipline through jungle canopies, kayak mangroves, ride horses on the beach or just relax in a hammock with a fresh coconut. The island’s Garifuna culture adds unique music and food and you can visit chocolate and rum factories for a taste of local flavor. But Roatán isn’t all postcard-perfect. The rainy season (Sept–Nov) brings heavy downpours and, rarely, hurricanes. Some areas can feel crowded during cruise ship days and petty theft happens-don’t flash valuables and lock up your things. Tap water isn’t safe to drink and traffic can be hectic, especially in West End and West Bay. Still, the friendly vibe, natural beauty and endless adventures make Roatán one of the Caribbean’s most memorable escapes.

- Bring reef-safe sunscreen and respect marine life; the coral reef is the main attraction.
- Rent a car for the East End – Camp Bay feels wild, quiet and completely different.
