Oceania might not be the first continent that comes to mind for plant based travel, but its biggest cities have quietly built some of the strongest vegan food scenes anywhere.
Australia's larger cities have a genuinely deep vegan restaurant culture, with everything from casual cafes to full tasting menus built entirely around plant based food. New Zealand takes a slightly different approach, leaning on its strong farm to table culture to offer plenty of naturally vegetable heavy dishes alongside a smaller but growing number of dedicated vegan spots. Across the Pacific islands, options are far more limited, so a bit of research and some flexibility help more than in the region's bigger cities.

Grater Goods in Sydenham calls itself gourmet plant based and makes meatless versions of dishes like the KFT burger. Portershed in Addington offers vegan versions of classic New Zealand foods and coconut matcha lattes. Barefoot Eatery serves naturally vegan waffles. She Universe blends chocolate from Ecuador, Peru and Dominica beans.

Red Sparrow Pizza in Collingwood is a 100 percent vegan wood fired pizzeria with dairy free mozzarella. Lentil As Anything in St Kilda lets diners pay what they feel. Its green lentil burger is well known. Kevabs in Brunswick bills itself as the city's first all vegan kebab shop.

One guide counts 29 fully vegan restaurants among 380 vegan ready venues. Wise Boys Burgers serves the Dirty Boy Burger and cauliflower wings in the city centre. Khu Khu does vegan Thai with duck drunken noodles. Gojo Ethiopian Eatery offers a vegan platter with shiro wat and misir wat.

Nolita on Cuba Street describes itself as the first plant based pizza and pastaria in New Zealand. The Botanist serves battered banana blossom fish.
