Why travel to Kaziranga National Park?
Kaziranga is a dream for wildlife lovers and photographers. The park’s star attraction is the one-horned rhino, but you’ll also spot herds of wild elephants, water buffalo, deer, and, with luck, the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger. Jeep and elephant safaris take you deep into the park’s four distinct zones, each with its own character and wildlife. Birdwatchers will be in heaven – over 480 species have been recorded here, from storks and pelicans to rare raptors. The landscape itself is stunning, framed by distant Himalayan peaks and dotted with shimmering wetlands. But Kaziranga isn’t without its challenges. The park is closed from May to October due to heavy monsoon rains and even in October some areas may be inaccessible. Flooding is common in the rainy season, which can displace wildlife and occasionally cause road closures. Plastic is strictly banned and you’ll need a metal or glass bottle for water. Safaris are only allowed at set times and hiking is prohibited for safety. The park is immaculate and well-managed, but expect basic facilities at the gates and simple accommodation options in the area. Still, for a raw and authentic wildlife experience, Kaziranga is unforgettable.
