Kamembe Airport serves as Rwanda’s gateway to the southern region near Volcanoes National Park. Opened in 2018, it handles domestic flights and some international charters. The airport sits at about 1,500 meters above sea level with a short runway suited for small planes. Its modern design includes passenger lounges, baggage services and customs facilities. Located close to mountain trails and gorilla habitats, Kamembe connects travelers quickly to trekking sites and nearby towns. It supports local tourism while providing essential transport links for residents in the area.
