Isolated island shorelines and quiet coastal plains in Oceania
Southeast Asia remains a major draw for the wider region, but Australia and New Zealand have built their own quieter retreat scenes around coastal and rainforest settings, often smaller in scale and less internationally marketed.
The destinations on this list range from rainforest retreat centres in tropical regions to coastal retreats built around mountains and sea. Both tend to attract smaller groups than the larger regional retreat circuit.
Booking well ahead for peak season matters at the region's most established retreats, several of which operate at limited capacity year-round. Both countries have seen a steady rise in smaller, independently run retreats over the past decade.
