Best cherry blossom destinations in Oceania

Landscaped public garden loops and scenic blossom viewing paths in Oceania

Spring arrives at the opposite time of year in Oceania, which means cherry blossom season here runs several months apart from the traditions most travelers already know.

Australia has a few notable plantings, some tied to historic gifts and memorial gardens that have grown into full groves over the decades since they were first planted. New Zealand carries its own blossom tradition too, with towns that hold dedicated festivals once the trees bloom each spring, drawing visitors well beyond the local area. Neither country matches the scale of older, more established traditions elsewhere, but the trees themselves are just as striking once in full bloom. Crowds also tend to be far smaller, which makes for a much more relaxed viewing experience.

Bloom timing shifts a little each year, so checking ahead before booking is worth doing. The destinations on our list for Oceania bring together the region's best known blossom spots with a few quieter ones worth the detour.
