High-altitude fairways and scenic mountain layout courses in South America
Golf has deep roots in parts of South America, with Argentina in particular producing some of the sport's most recognized names and courses.
Argentina's golf tradition dates back over a century, and the country has produced major champions including Angel Cabrera, winner of both the US Open and the Masters. Buenos Aires alone has dozens of historic clubs, while Bariloche offers a very different style of course set against Patagonia's lakes and mountains. Brazil built a dedicated Olympic course in Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Games, which remains open to the public and helped raise the sport's profile in the country. Chile has leaned into golf tourism too, pairing courses in the Casablanca Valley with the region's wineries for a day that combines both. Uruguay rounds things out with coastal courses around Punta del Este, long popular with visitors from neighboring Argentina and Brazil.
Course conditions and green fees vary a lot by country, so checking ahead matters more here than in more established golf markets elsewhere.
