Championship layout courses and scenic desert fairways in Africa

South Africa anchors Africa's golf tourism, with courses set against genuine wilderness backdrops combining championship design with dramatic scenery. North African countries have invested heavily in golf more recently, building a smaller but growing destination around their own courses.

The destinations on this list range from bushveld courses where wildlife can appear mid-round to coastal resort courses built specifically around golf tourism. Some combine golf with safari trips. Others stand on their own as a dedicated golf destination.

Checking wildlife advisories at bushveld courses is worth doing before teeing off, since several southern African courses share their fairways with genuinely wild animals. Many resorts also bundle accommodation with green fees. Booking a caddie alongside a round also tends to add valuable local course knowledge that's easy to miss otherwise.
