Gil Hanse designed the Olympic Golf Course in the Marapendi Natural Reserve in Barra da Tijuca. It plays to a par of 71 and about 7,135 yards from the men's tees. Golf returned to the Olympics here in 2016 after last being played in 1904. The course opened to the public afterwards.
