The murals of Ernest Zacharevic, including Children on a Bicycle, started a street art boom here in 2012. Fifty-two wire sculptures by local cartoonists now line the streets too. Much of the art is in the Old Town, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.

Seoul
Where Tradition Meets High-Tech Marvels

The Ihwa-dong Naksan Project began in 2006 when about 70 artists painted a hillside village. It had been slated for demolition. By 2013 the village had over 100 works. Its murals show daily Korean life, such as a seamstress and a paper collector. Hongdae in this city has a mural alley too.

A vibrant blend of old and new

Stencils and lettering cover the walls of America Street in Ximending, which was designated a graffiti zone. Pop art murals by local artists such as Fleks and Vastar fill the alleys around Kunming Street. Taipei Cinema Park also has murals. A rainbow crossing outside Ximen station adds more colour.
