Best outlet shopping destinations in Africa

Outlet shopping in Africa looks different from the shuttle bus and big parking lot version found elsewhere. Outlet malls exist but they are fewer and farther apart. Factory shops near the workshop, with leather goods, knitwear and printed fabric at lower prices, can be more fun anyway.

Some travelers want brand-name sneakers in a modern mall with air conditioning and a food court. Others prefer a workshop shop where they can watch a belt being cut or a basket being woven. Haggling is normal in many markets, so a smile and some patience help. Cash is often needed. Card machines can be slow.

The destinations on our list range from modern outlet complexes with fixed prices to factory districts and craft markets where the price depends on a good chat. Those take more time but you might leave with something you cannot easily find at home.
