Belgium Airports

Belgium is home to a variety of airports that serve different types of travelers, from international business and leisure travelers to budget-conscious tourists. The country's most significant airport hub is Brussels Airport, located in Zaventem, just about 12 kilometers northeast of Brussels city center. This airport is the main international gateway for Belgium, connecting the country to hundreds of destinations worldwide and serving as the primary hub for Brussels Airlines. Additionally, Belgium features popular low-cost airline airports like Brussels South Charleroi Airport, which is favored by budget airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air, serving millions of passengers each year. Other notable airports include Antwerp International Airport and Liege Airport, which serve regional and cargo traffic respectively. Together, these airports represent Belgium’s well-connected air travel infrastructure, leveraging their locations to maintain excellent connectivity within the country and across Europe.

Brussels Airport is Belgium’s largest and busiest airport, located in the municipality of Zaventem. It handles the majority of Belgium's international passenger flights and serves as the main hub for Brussels Airlines, the country’s flagship carrier operating an extensive network of European, North American, African and Middle Eastern routes. The airport features two runways and a modern terminal with comprehensive facilities including shops, lounges and business services. Its location just outside Brussels makes it easily accessible by road and rail, connecting well to Brussels city center and other major Belgian cities.

Brussels South Charleroi Airport, located about 46 kilometers south of Brussels, has gained popularity as the country’s primary low-cost airline base. Airlines like Ryanair, Wizz Air and TUI fly operate numerous routes from Charleroi, making it a favorite for travelers seeking more affordable options. The airport boasts excellent on-time performance, low airport charges and a streamlined passenger experience focused on quick operations. It serves over 8 million passengers annually and features a single runway and two terminals. Transport connections include shuttle buses and trains linking it efficiently to Brussels and the wider region.

Antwerp International Airport lies very close to Antwerp’s city center, about 5 kilometers away, making it a convenient choice for business travelers and regional traffic. It mostly handles short-haul flights within Europe and some cargo operations. The airport is smaller and less congested than Brussels Airport but offers an important alternative for travelers in the northern part of Belgium.

Liege Airport, located near the city of Liège, is Belgium’s main cargo airport but also handles passenger flights, mainly charter and some scheduled services. It plays a crucial role in freight transport throughout Europe and supports the local economy by providing logistics and passenger services. The airport has good connectivity by road and rail, linking it to Antwerp, Brussels and other metropolitan areas.
