Shanghai is served by two major international airports: Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). Pudong Airport is the main international hub, located about 30 kilometers east of the city center and handles the majority of long-haul international flights. It is one of the busiest airports in the world by passenger and cargo traffic, known for its extensive international connections, large passenger terminals and modern facilities including a high-speed Maglev train to downtown.

Hongqiao Airport, situated much closer to the city center around 13 kilometers west, primarily handles domestic flights and regional international flights in East Asia. It has excellent transport links including metro lines and high-speed rail connections. Hongqiao Airport offers the most convenient access to downtown Shanghai and is favored for domestic and short-haul flights.
