Zambia Airports

Zambia is a landlocked country in Southern Africa known for its beautiful landscapes and rich wildlife, attracting tourists and business travelers alike. Air travel plays an essential role in connecting Zambia's major cities, remote towns and popular safari destinations. The country has a network of domestic and international airports strategically located to serve different regions, with some airports functioning as hubs for national carriers and regional airlines. Zambia's airports offer important connections to neighboring countries, as well as international destinations in Africa, Europe and the Middle East. In recent years, investments have been made to upgrade airport infrastructure and enhance service quality. For travelers, knowing Zambia’s primary airports and their connectivity to surrounding cities and airlines is key to effective travel planning within and beyond the country.

Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN), located near Lusaka, the capital city, is Zambia’s largest and busiest airport. Serving as the main international gateway, it handles most of the country’s international flights, connecting Zambia to destinations such as Doha, Dubai, Johannesburg, Addis Ababa and London. The airport acts as a hub for Zambia Airways, Proflight Zambia and Royal Zambian Airlines. Its modern facilities include a recently expanded terminal, aimed at increasing capacity and enhancing passenger experience.

Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport (LVI) serves the city of Livingstone in southern Zambia and is the gateway to the world-renowned Victoria Falls. It operates both domestic and international flights, connecting Livingstone to Lusaka and neighboring countries. This airport is vital for tourism and houses airlines like Proflight Zambia and low-cost regional carriers, offering increased accessibility to tourists and locals.

Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport (NLA) in Ndola is another key international airport, located in Zambia’s Copperbelt Province, a major mining region. This airport provides regional connections and serves as a hub for cargo and passenger flights supporting economic activities. Airlines like Fastjet and Ethiopian Airlines operate here, linking Ndola with regional hubs such as Nairobi and Johannesburg.

Other notable airports include Mfuwe Airport (MFU), important for access to South Luangwa National Park, a prime safari destination and Solwezi Airport (SLI) serving the North-Western Province. Mfuwe is particularly known for charter flights and seasonal tourist flights. Zambia’s airport network supports both full-service and budget airlines, with carriers such as Fastjet providing affordable options primarily on domestic and regional routes. This blend of international hubs, regional airports and a growing budget airline presence facilitates comprehensive air travel coverage across Zambia’s diverse geography.
