Best cherry blossom destinations in Asia

Historic palace gardens and parkland canal paths across Asia

Cherry blossom season turns parts of Asia into a completely different place for a few short weeks each year, drawing travelers who plan their entire trip around a single bloom.

East Asia is home to the most famous cherry blossom traditions, with centuries of festivals, viewing parties and even weather forecasts built around the flowers. Timing varies a lot within the region, since blooms move gradually from warmer southern areas up toward cooler northern ones over several weeks each spring. Parks, temple grounds and riverside paths tend to offer the best viewing, often lit up at night during peak bloom for a very different atmosphere after dark. Elsewhere in Asia, smaller pockets of cherry blossoms exist too, though without quite the same scale or tradition built around them.

Bloom dates shift a little every year, so checking forecasts before booking makes a real difference. The destinations on our list for Asia combine the classic viewing spots with quieter places to catch the same fleeting season.
