What is travelfilters?
travelfilters is a travel inspiration and planning platform built around one idea: giving you the right information, clearly structured, so you can find and plan your perfect trip without the noise. Browse thousands of curated destinations, use filters to match your personal preferences, and get everything you need in one place.
How do travelfilters' place scores work?
Every destination on travelfilters is rated from 0 to 10 in more than 100 categories, like museums, hiking, street food or safety. We use the same categories and the same scale for every place and measure against the whole world, so very different destinations can be compared. The big number with the colored circle is the general place score. It's a summarized score calculated with a custom formula to make all kinds of different places comparable. The five parts of the circle show a place's strongest categories in color. What is the reality check badge on photos?
It's our way of saying: this photo shows the real deal, flaws included. Travel content online has become a minefield of unrealistic expectations. Perfect photos, edited colors, everything looks flawless. But the reality is often less perfect: Places are crowded, the perfect scenery is only a small part of the location next to a loud highway, parts are closed for construction. We wanted to do something about that disconnect. That's why we added the Reality Check badge. Our goal is to help you plan trips based on what places actually look like, not what they look like in their best possible light that rarely exists. Finding destinations
How do I find a destination that fits my preferences?
Use the Trip Finder to filter destinations by what matters to you: type of destinations (e.g. mountains, sea, cities), preferred activities like surfing, local cuisine or sightseeing, your available budget, travel dates, and more. The results show destinations that genuinely match your criteria, not algorithmically promoted ones.
Can I explore destinations without knowing where I want to go?
Absolutely. That's one of the core use cases. The Trip Finder lets you explore freely based on your interests and situation. You can also browse our curated discover pages, which group destinations thematically, for example "Best beaches in Asia" or "Architecture highlights in Europe".
Can I search by budget?
Yes. The budget filters lets you narrow destinations to what's realistic for you. Each destination page also shows a detailed cost breakdown across accommodation, food, transport and activities for 3 budget levels, so you can see what a trip actually costs at your comfort level.
Can I find flight connections from my home airport?
Yes, travelfilters has a dedicated flight connections section with an interactive map showing available routes from your chosen departure airport, including average prices and flight durations. This lets you explore where you can actually get to, not just where looks nice in photos.
Planning your trip
Can I save destinations and build a travel list?
Yes. With a free account you can save destinations, organize them into lists, and gradually turn a list into a travel plan. You can also share lists with travel companions and plan collaboratively.
How does booking work through travelfilters?
travelfilters doesn't process bookings directly. When you're ready to book flights, hotels or such, we link you through to trusted partner platforms. We're transparent about these affiliate links — they're how we keep the platform free for users.
Are there any premium features I need to pay for?
No. travelfilters is free to use and we don't lock core features behind a paywall. The platform is funded through affiliate commissions when users book through our partner links, not through subscription fees or intrusive advertising.
Your account
What can I do with a travelfilters account?
A free account lets you save destinations and lists, set personal travel preferences for personalized destination ratings, document past travels in a visual travel history, track experiences and earn milestones, and share your profile or lists with friends.
Is my data private?
Yes. travelfilters is GDPR-compliant. You can find full details in our privacy policy, including what data we collect, how it is used, and your rights. In the account settings you can control the privacy settings about how other users can see your content, for example the places you liked or the lists you created.
Contributing
I have ideas for cool new features. Can I tell you?
Of course. We have a dedicated roadmap and ideas section where users can share ideas and see our current progress of working on them. You can post your own idea there as a new topic or comment to an existing one, if someone else already posted a similar idea. You can also vote ideas for how much you would like to have them realized. We use those to set our priorities for which topics we work on next.
A place is missing that I think should be listed here. Can you add it?
travelfilters currently covers around 3,000 carefully curated destinations worldwide. We know many are missing and we are trying to add more as quickly as we can. Because our destination pages contain so many information, adding them takes time. We already have a huge backlog of places that we want to add, but please still send us yours with this form and we will add it to our list.
