Why travel to Rust?
Europa-Park is the reason to come to Rust. It's billed as Germany's largest theme park, with themed areas inspired by European countries, over 100 attractions and shows and a mix of roller coasters, family rides and live performances. The park also has six themed hotels, a Tipi Town and camping at Silver Lake City, so many visitors stay inside the resort. Halloween events in autumn and a winter season in the colder months extend the park beyond summer. Rulantica is the resort's water park and is open year-round, which makes it a good option for a rainy day or for winter. Many families plan two days, with one in each. Inside Europa-Park you also pass Schloss Balthasar, a 16th-century former moated castle. The village itself is quiet and flat. The Naturzentrum Rheinauen has a climate garden with a lookout tower and a falcon farm with flight shows. The Taubergießen reserve to the west follows an old Rhine branch. The Allmend lake is a natural swimming lake. Freiburg, the Black Forest and Alsace are all within an hour, so Rust can also be a base for the region.

Where to stay in Rust
Most visitors stay at the park itself. Europa-Park has six themed hotels, Silver Lake City with its Tipi Town and a caravan and camping area. They're popular with families since you can leave the park and come back easily. Rust also has independent hotels, guesthouses and holiday apartments in the village. They cost less than the resort hotels and are quieter in the evening. Nearby villages like Ringsheim, Ettenheim and Kappel-Grafenhausen have more guesthouses and campsites, though you need a car or a bus to get to the park. Rooms book out in summer, during school holidays and for Halloween and the winter season, so booking ahead helps. Freiburg and Offenburg are options for a base with more choice and fast rail links to Ringsheim.
