Best travel destinations for seniors in Asia

Asia offers some of the most senior friendly infrastructure anywhere, alongside destinations that still call for a bit more independence and stamina.

Japan in particular stands out, with clean, reliable public transport, clear signage and a culture built around courtesy that makes independent travel easier than it might sound. Southeast Asia has also become a popular destination for medical travel, with modern hospitals and lower costs drawing older travelers for both vacations and treatment. Cruise stops across the region have grown quickly too, offering a relaxed way to see several countries without repacking a suitcase. Hot, humid weather in parts of the region is worth planning around, especially during the hottest months. Elevators and escalators are increasingly common in major cities too, even in older buildings.

The destinations on our list for Asia reflect that same mix of easy infrastructure and destinations worth a bit more planning.
