Best destinations to visit in October in Africa
October brings some of the hottest, driest conditions of the year to parts of East and Southern Africa, right before the rains return.
Southern safari regions reach peak dry season intensity this month, and while the heat can be intense, it also concentrates wildlife around the last remaining water sources, making sightings especially reliable. East Africa's short rains typically begin arriving toward the end of October, gradually easing the dry season's grip as the month closes out. Cape Town and the wider Cape region enjoy a comfortable spring, with mild days and the last of the season's wildflowers still visible in places. North Africa continues to cool, staying pleasant for city exploring. Warm layers remain useful for early game drives, even during the hottest stretch of the year.
The destinations on our list for Africa reflect that same range, from peak dry season safaris to a mild, flower filled Cape spring.
